Open Air Cinema Nights

From September 1 to 3, Open-Air Cinema Nights will take place again in Schmellwitz and the Jewish Film Festival Berlin | Brandenburg presents the film PLAN A.

Great films, open-air and free admission!

From cult films like "The Fifth Element" or "The Fabulous World of Amélie", to the road trip of two teenagers in "Tschick" or the amusing comedy "Smuggling Hendrix" which shows the absurdity of borders, it goes on to the touching train ride in "Abteil Nr. 6" or Jean Reno in an unusual role in the film "A Summer in Provence", to the Erich Kästner classic "The Flying Classroom" in a new film version from 2003 - the program of this year's Open-Air Cinema Nights Schmellwitz shows the most diverse facets of European cinema.

"After four years of cinema nights, we already have almost festival character with a total of twelve screenings and that with free admission. Together with the FilmFestival Cottbus, we have created three days full of entertainment," says Michael Tietz, chairman of the Bürgerverein e.V. Schmellwitz and organizer of the cinema nights.

The open-air cinema can even do much more than just entertain: With the project "School & Cinema", for which we even received 2nd place at the Cottbus Tolerance Award last year, school classes are again encouraged to respectfully deal with controversial topics. On Thursday, for example, we will show "Vor der Tür" by Stefan Göbel twice, who will then discuss Sorbian identity with the young people, and on Friday we will also show the MDR documentary "Hoyerswerda 91" in two screenings. Afterwards we have competent discussion guests with the initiatives "Pogrom 91" and "Cottbus 92".
