Following two successful editions, we are pleased to announce the third edition of JFBB pro, the industry platform of the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg.

JFBB pro delves into aspects of the industry and serves as a meeting point for professionals working with or interested in Jewish themes in film. JFBB pro aims to bring together filmmakers, producers, and industry representatives from Germany and abroad as well as to promote exchange, spark new ideas, and strengthen networks within the industry.

This year, JFBB pro takes place on May 6 at the Felleshus of the Nordic Embassies in Berlin, in line with the festival’s focus on Nordic Jewish perspectives. The programme features panel discussions on current issues in film. It explores how cinema can engage with complex and polarizing subjects such as historical trauma, antisemitism, and the Middle East conflict, as well as the representation of Jewish identity in the Nordic countries. In addition, there will be presentations of projects in development, as well as showcases of new work by emerging talents and members of the Dagesh network.

We look forward to welcoming you to an inspiring day of new connections, fresh ideas, and a proper Nordic fika!

Attendance is free of charge, but registration is required. Please secure your spot by contacting: pro@jfbb.info

Programme:

10:30–12:00 TALK
When Complexity Meets the Demand for Entertainment – How Can Film Help Bridge Social Divides?

Today’s society is deeply divided over complex issues, including topics central to Jewish filmmakers and festivals – such as reflections on history and trauma, the Middle East conflict, and antisemitism. Culture is not only under political pressure but is also expected to offer solutions. Yet how far can film go in exploring complex conflicts beyond explanatory works or films built around simple political messages? What creative approaches are possible? Can humour play a role? Where does representing human suffering cross into exploitation for artistic or commercial purposes? And how can serious themes be adapted into entertainment genres, as Berlin producer Artur Brauner (founder CCC Film) once attempted?
