JFBB 2025: Unterhaltsames jüdisches Kino mit Tiefgang
What do a Shabbat comedy, a wild western ride and a graphic novel legend have in common? - Find out more in the JFBB 2025 overview.
JFBB 2025: Entertaining Jewish cinema with depth - from 6 to 11 May in Berlin and Brandenburg
From 6 to 11 May 2025, the 31st Jewish Film Festival Berlin-Brandenburg (JFBB) invites you to discover Jewish life in all its diversity - humorous, exciting, musical and always with a pinch of thoughtfulness. The festival presents 57 films in six sections at eleven venues in Berlin, Potsdam, Eberswalde, Oranienburg and Frankfurt (Oder).
More than history
The JFBB shows that Jewish film goes far beyond historical material. It combines cinematic enjoyment with social relevance and creates spaces for dialogue and a change of perspective - especially in politically tense times.
The festival opens with the turbulent Shabbat comedy Bad Shabbos (Daniel Robbins, US 2024), in which family chaos, wordplay and a murder case provide the best screwball entertainment. Thriller fans will also get their money's worth: Guns & Moses (Salvador Litvak, US 2024) and Highway 65 (Maya Dreifuss, IL 2024) deliver suspense and intense social images.
The biopic Midas Man (Joe Stephenson, UK 2024) about Beatles manager Brian Epstein and the Argentinian musician dramedyI Had the Heart (Oliver Kolker & Hernán Findling, 2024) strike a musical chord. The tragicomic Most People Die on Sundays (Iair Said, AR/IT/ES 2024) tells of queer identity and family relationships. The Property (Dana Modan, IL/PL 2025) centres on a road movie that interweaves past and present.
History reimagined on film
A highlight of the festival programme is the animated historical narrative Legend of Destruction (Gidi Dar, US/IL 2021), which tells the story of the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem in expressive images. Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse (Molly Bernstein & Philip Dolin, US 2024) is also a cinematic memorial: the documentary film is dedicated to the life of the mouse creator, who dealt with the Shoah in a unique artistic way with his graphic novel.
The documentary Jews of the Wild West (Amanda Kinsey, US 2022), which portrays Jewish pioneers in 19th century America, offers an unexpected perspective on Jewish history.
Festival with an attitude
In 2025, the JFBB will continue to take a clear stance against anti-Semitism and in favour of social discourse. Panels and discussions with filmmakers will accompany the film programme - including directors such as Daniel Robbins, Joe Stephenson, Maya Dreifuss, Dana Modan, Molly Bernstein and Philip Dolin.
