Jewish Life at the 15th Kurdish Film Festival Berlin – in Cooperation with the JFBB

From September 25 to October 1, 2025, the 15th Kurdish Film Festival Berlin will take place under the motto “Coexistence.” This year, the festival places a special focus on the coexistence and tolerance of religious and ethnic minorities in Kurdistan. The film program explores the interactions between Kurds, Assyrians, Armenians, Arabs, and Turks, as well as the coexistence of religions such as Yazidism, Judaism, Alevism, Christianity, and Islam.

In cooperation with the Kurdish Film Festival, the JFBB is pleased to present three films that address Jewish-Kurdish history and present:

PINKAS DREAM (Ruth Walk, 1998, 52 min): The story of a 75-year-old Kurdish-born farm laborer who brings his family to Israel – and is confronted with profound integration problems.

BÊWAR: KURDISH ASYLUM SEEKERS IN TEL AVIV (Veysi Dag, 2025, 45 min): A film about Kurdish refugees from Turkey who must survive in Israel without papers and on the margins of society.

ROOTS (Veysi Dag, 2025, 45 min): A cinematic portrait of Kurdish-Jewish migration to Israel since the 1950s.

These films open a rare perspective on the experiences of Kurdish Jews – a subject that rarely receives attention, either in cinema or in broader society.
