Event tip: Augen auf-Kinotag on January 27th, 2025!
On 27 January 2025, the Eyes Open Cinema Day will take place for the first time in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main and Rostock to commemorate the victims of National Socialism. The aim of this day is to draw a connection to the here and now and to create a low-threshold space of remembrance through the medium of film and cinema, in which encounters, exchange and reflection are possible.
The Augen auf-Kinotag invites people to take an in-depth look at the history of National Socialism - because film is moving. The aim of the cinema day is to mobilise, to remember, to stand up against right-wing tendencies, to motivate young people to deal with the past and to reflect on it today. Dr Lea Wohl von Haselberg, programme director of the JFBB, is also on the jury of film experts who selected the films!
Dr Andrea Despot, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility, Future (EVZ), comments:
‘Anyone who studies disenfranchisement, persecution and extermination by the National Socialists also takes a more sensitised look at discrimination today. Teaching history is a booster for solidarity and democracy. Young people want to understand and learn, not just be entertained. We need interactive and participatory programmes for history education - both inside and outside of school.’
