Canada's second-largest city, home to a vibrant and diverse Jewish community, can also boast a rich culinary offering thanks to its Jewish immigrants, having roots as they do in a variety of countries. Stand-up comedians Eli Batalion and Jamie Elman delve into the mysteries of Jewish cuisine and the complex history behind it in this hour-long documentary. For a day, the makers of the web series YidLife Crisis embark on a culinary journey across Jewish Montréal that starts with breakfast, takes a detour in the form of numerous tasty snacks, and ends with dinner. In the process they learn, together with the likes of Zev Moses, director of the Museum of Jewish Montréal, about the multifaceted Jewish history of their hometown over the past 100 years and make the acquaintance of a diverse range of people who, whilst presenting their dishes, speak of the city’s Jewish past and present. In the best sense, a film that truly whets the appetite!
