Summer School at the 32nd JFBB

As part of the 32nd Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg, the Summer School “Jewish History and Contemporary Life in Film” took place in Berlin. The program brought together students and doctoral candidates from various disciplines, combining academic perspectives with hands-on festival experience.

Over the course of five days, participants engaged intensively with Jewish film as a space for artistic and social discourse. Mornings were dedicated to lectures and workshops on film history, aesthetics, media theory, and Israeli cinema, while afternoons and evenings were devoted to attending festival screenings and reflecting on the films together.

Talks with filmmakers—including Angelika Levi, Yael Reuveny, and cinematographer Maayane Bouhnik—offered valuable insights into contemporary cinematic practices and production contexts. These encounters were complemented by group discussions that encouraged critical reflection and exchange.

The Summer School was realized in cooperation with the Central Council of Jews in Germany, as well as the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and the Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich Studienwerk (ELES).
