Theatrical Release for Klaus Härö’s NEVER ALONE
© UCM.ONE GmbH
The Finnish–Estonian–Swedish–Austrian–German co-production opens in German cinemas on February 5.
At its center is the fateful story of Finnish textile merchant Abraham Stiller, who during the Second World War worked tirelessly to save Jewish women and men who had fled to Finland. At the time, Finland—aligned with Nazi Germany—came under pressure to extradite the approximately 2,000 Finnish Jews and 350 Jewish refugees who had sought safety in the country. Stiller succeeded in largely preventing the deportations, but was unable to save every life. It is a chapter of history that is rarely discussed in Finland. The highly emotional film by cult director Klaus Härö brings this story to light—and became a major box-office success in Finland. It is an important contribution to remembrance culture and compelling cinema for a broad audience.
NEVER ALONE will be released in German cinemas by UCM.ONE Filmverleih on February 5. At the German premiere on February 2 at the Kino in der Kulturbrauerei in Berlin, cast members Naemi Latzer and Rony Herman were in attendance, along with German co-producer John Hörnschemeyer (Penned Pictures) and Melanie Stoff representing the Austrian co-production company Samsara Film. Stefan Körzell, member of the executive board of the DGB, delivered the welcoming address. The JFBB and the DGB supported the premiere as cooperation partners.
NEVER ALONE will also be screened at the 32nd JFBB as part of the “Nordic Jewish Focus,” a special program dedicated to Jewish experience in the Nordic countries.
