The GDR television film tells the fate of Frank Schattmann and his family by alternating between different time levels. Based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by the writer, painter and Auschwitz survivor Peter Edel, it is characteristic of the GDR in its tension between ideological references and the personal story of a survivor.
