September Edition of the Jewish Salon
On September 9th, 2025, a new edition of the Jewish Salon Potsdam took place in Potsdam's Schinkelhalle – in cooperation of the Landeshauptstadt Potsdam and the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg. Under the title ‘How our lives shape our political actions’, guests discussed how biography, origin and experiences influence commitment and attitudes.
The evening was moderated by actress, director and author Adriana Altaras. Speakers on the podium included Stella Leder, author, dramaturge and director of the Institute for New Social Sculpture, Albert Wiederspiel, a Polish-born Jewish former film manager and festival director, and Daniel Kahn, theatre artist, musician, songwriter and Yiddish troubadour. Daniel Kahn also provided musical accompaniment for the evening with songs in Yiddish, German and English.
The focus was on the question of how ruptures, stories of loss, migration or transgenerational memories motivate people to take on public responsibility – and which cultural continuities, role models or experiences give them the strength to take a stand.
The JFBB was represented by Nir Ferber, who accompanied the salon evening for the festival.
Following the discussion, a convivial conclusion provided an opportunity for in-depth conversations and networking.
