Film series Jewish 1945 - Joint event
To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe, the New Synagogue Berlin-Centrum Judaicum Foundation, Urania Berlin e.V. and the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg (JFBB) are presenting a special film series. From March to May 2025, films will be shown that deal with Jewish experiences after the Shoah. The screenings will be accompanied by panel discussions with experts from the fields of film, history and culture and moderated by Knut Elstermann.
While many so-called ‘rubble films’ after 1945 focused on the suffering of the German civilian population, Jewish perspectives often went unmentioned or were only alluded to. With this film series, the organisers want to make forgotten stories visible and create a space for reflection and discussion.
JFBB screenings on 8 May
On 8 May 2025 at 11:00 am at Filmkunst 66, the films ‘The Illegals’ (1947) and ‘Reminiscences from Germany’ (1971/1993/2012) will be presented by the JFBB. These films take a unique look at the experiences of Jewish survivors and the challenges they faced after the war.
